Debunking the deniers

Refuting the channel 4 documentary "Great Global Warming Swindle" ...

A great analysis that pulls to pieces the poor science from Channel 4

The refutation of the sunspot theory is especially worth noting.

A am very very sorry for you Dawson, is a pity that this is how your life is
going to end is a pity but I will like to give you some chance to help your
self if you will like to.
As you can see there is no need of introducing my self to you because I
don't have any business with you, My work as I am talking to you now is just
to kill you and I have to do it as I have already been paid for that.

Someone that I will not like to tell you the name now but a friend of yours,
came to us and told me that he want you dead and he provided us with your
name ,picture and other information about you. So I sent my boys to track
you down and carry on some investigation on you and they have done that but
I told them not to kill you that I will like to contact you and see if your
life is Important to you or not since there findings shows that you are
innocent. I called my client back and ask him of you email address which I
didn't tell him what I want to do with it and he gave it to me and I am
using it to contact you now. As I am writing to you now my men are
monitoring you and there telling me every thing about you. So I will like to
know if you will like to live or die as someone has paid for us to kill you.
I am given you a grace of two days to get back to me if you are ready to pay
$30,000 or I will carry on with my job.

WARNING: DO NOT CONTACT POLICE OR TELL ANY ONE, IF YOU DO THAT I WILL
KNOW AND I WILL EXTEND IT TO YOUR LOVE ONES.
ALWAYS BE IN YOUR HOUSE BEFORE OR BY 7:PM UNTILL I MAKE OUT TIME TO SEE YOU
AND GIVE YOU THE VIDEO TAPE OF MY DISCOUSION WITH THE PERSON WHO WANT YOU
DEAD THEN YOU CAN USE IT TO TAKE ANY LEGAL ACTION ON HIM.
GOOD LUCK AS I AWAIT YOUR REPLY.

The Internet is not a Superhighway

From Slashdot

" The internet is a lot like an information superhighway...

No, the Internet is NOT like a superhighway :-) From Usenet, 1994-ish:

"Think of the Internet as a highway."

There it is again. Some clueless fool talking about the "Information Superhighway." They don't know didley about the net. It's nothing like a superhighway. That's a rotten metaphor.

Suppose the metaphor ran in the other direction. Suppose the highways were like the net. . .

A highway hundreds of lanes wide. Most with pitfalls for potholes. Privately operated bridges and overpasses. No highway patrol. A couple of rent-a-cops on bicycles with broken whistles. 500 member vigilante posses with nuclear weapons. A minimum of 237 on ramps at every intersection. No signs. Wanna get to Ensenada? Holler out the window at a passing truck to ask directions. Ad hoc traffic laws. Some lanes would vote to make use by a single-occupant-vehicle a capital offense on Monday through Friday between 7:00 and 9:00. Other lanes would just shoot you without a trial for talking on a car phone.

Richard Stallman at the 5th international GPLv3 conference; 21st November 2006

Just been reading the transcript of Richard Stallman GPLv3 5th International Conference .. its available here http://fsfeurope.org/projects/gplv3/tokyo-rms-transcript

It has such beautiful content as

"Treacherous Computing is an instance of a very dangerous phenomenon, namely a conspiracy of companies to restrict the public - to restrict the public's access to technology. Such conspiracies ought to be a crime. The executives of those companies should be tried, and if convicted, sent to prison for conspiring to restrict the public's access to technology. However, that sort of policy would have required leaders that believe in government of the people, by the people, for the people. What we have today is government of the people, by the flunkies, for the corporations.

Arbourthorne Free Wireless Project

Started work on the Arbourthorne free wireless project. ( need to think of a catchier name ! )

Purchased 4 Linksys WRT54GL and started installing the freifunk firmware

Seems quite cool software. The OLSR daemon works nicely and creates the routes happily. Need to remember that the wireless interfaces must all be in the same subnet, adhoc, and have same essid for automatic meshing to work.

Love Sheffield Music Hate Racism

Just heard about this! http://www.lmhrsheffield.co.uk/ looks good, I look forward to hearing more of it, and getting the record.

‘Love Sheffield Music Hate Racism’ Album Launch Party!!!!!! Thursday 5th October @ THE HUBS, HALLAM UNION, SHEFFIELD

“Ignorance and misunderstanding are the underlying causes of racism. Music cuts through all that crap so we can judge a human being by the quality of their soul and musicality which are so much more important than the color of there skin or their nationality” Richard Hawley, June 2006.

Sheffield city has a long and proud history of challenging racism and an equally proud history of producing great music. We decided to promote the energy and quality of our SHEFFIELD MUSIC and use it to celebrate diversity; by putting together the ‘LOVE SHEFFIELD MUSIC HATE RACISM ALBUM’, a double CD featuring Sheffield artists.
