In the quest to produce a simple way of porting documents into more transparent formats I've managed to use wvWare to convert MS word 2000 Docs to html and pdf from shellscripts.

I'll post some examples later. First though

wvHtml filename.doc filename.html

Creates HTML from Word docs .. seems OK, yet to try on complex tables.

wvPS filename.doc filename.ps
ps2pdf filename.ps filename.pdf

gives a 2 stage process to getting pdf files out of word docs.

The formatting is a little changed each time but it looks like a really great start.
