Actually MKDoc 1.6 has quite a few bits which are open-sourced, MKDoc 
1.8 will have even more.

Sounds like a lot of buzz to me. The Archetypes syntax actually looks 
like programming, in this respect Plone is no different from MKDoc: if 
you need more metadata fields, you need to code them.

We've got a WYSIWYG editor now with the upcoming MKDoc 1.8.
We can backport it to MKDoc 1.6 _very easily_ (that's a day of work or 
so) if it's required.
