Hi ..
I hooked up a router to the new verdon street internet connection, so that it
could be shared amongst the other computers there.
I used a wrt54gs for this, as there was one there. (If there are any better
ideas, we can change it i guess )
I did some downstream speed tests using wget
aland at freedom:~$ wget --delete-after
http://fuller.zen.co.uk/test/100MB_zero.bin
--14:31:24-- http://fuller.zen.co.uk/test/100MB_zero.bin
=> `100MB_zero.bin'
Resolving fuller.zen.co.uk... 212.23.6.76
Connecting to fuller.zen.co.uk|212.23.6.76|:80... connected.
HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 200 OK
Length: 104,857,600 (100M) [application/octet-stream]
100%[====================================>] 104,857,600 1.01M/s ETA 00:00
14:33:07 (1004.43 KB/s) - `100MB_zero.bin' saved [104857600/104857600]
Removing 100MB_zero.bin.
aland at freedom:~$
the rate was pretty consistently 1MByte/S ~ 8Mbit/second
I did some upstream tests to miro.burngreave.net using iperf
aland at freedom:~$ iperf -c miro.burngreave.net
------------------------------------------------------------
Client connecting to miro.burngreave.net, TCP port 5001
TCP window size: 16.0 KByte (default)
------------------------------------------------------------
[ 3] local 192.168.1.26 port 40531 connected with 89.107.22.33 port 5001
[ 3] 0.0-10.1 sec 888 KBytes 722 Kbits/sec
aland at freedom:~$
which was pretty consistent also at about 700Kbit/sec
So the internet connection is running much better than before..( 3x times faster
up, 16 x faster down )
Nice one for ordering and waiting for the cable hookup, whoever did that.
