Just been reading the transcript of Richard Stallman GPLv3 5th International Conference .. its available here http://fsfeurope.org/projects/gplv3/tokyo-rms-transcript

It has such beautiful content as

"Treacherous Computing is an instance of a very dangerous phenomenon, namely a conspiracy of companies to restrict the public - to restrict the public's access to technology. Such conspiracies ought to be a crime. The executives of those companies should be tried, and if convicted, sent to prison for conspiring to restrict the public's access to technology. However, that sort of policy would have required leaders that believe in government of the people, by the people, for the people. What we have today is government of the people, by the flunkies, for the corporations.

Hello Everyone

There's a full Sheffield City Council meeting this Wednesday 6th at 2pm in the Town Hall. Amongst other items there is a resolution (put by the LibDems...) arguing that the right to work for asylum seekers should be reinstated.

There will be an opportunity for anybody to ask questions and make points about the issue from the public gallery. To do this you need to get to the Town Hall reception by about 1.30pm on the day and register yourself. It might take them a while to get round to discussing this resolution but probably not later than 3pm.

With growing numbers of destitute asylum seekers in Sheffield, without the right to benefits, accommodation or to work legally the problem is a real one. The Council has limited powers to change current legislation but it can and should publicise its opposition to a policy which creates poverty, crime and illegal low-wage work.

Indymedia servers have been siezed by the FBI. The hosters, rackspace, have handed over the the hard drives.

With the success of Burngreave Community Area Network, we need to start building on it and putting some content in through the pipes..

1. plug residents who are interested working with Community Organisations directly into the CAN ?

2. get timebank software going ? Use it to coordinate volunteer activity ?

3. find ways of 'can' abling every community group in Burngreave ?

Burngreave Evironment and Fun day

May 2nd 2004, went to the Burngreave Evironment and Fun day It was really good. Music, stuff for all ages, people making green houses out of waste plastic water bottles. Information on recycling and composting, and great music.

Spent a May 3 in the Earth Centre Conisbourgh .. Its a pleasant enough day out, but full of contradictions.

For a site dedicated to sustainable development it seems to have a lack of discussion on alternative economics, organic gardening, permaculture. The retail side of it seems to sell the usual junk food that you can by at Mcdonalds than anything more positive like New roots
