Installing MKDOC on a Dual Opteron Server

I've started installing on MKDOC on a Dual Opteron ( AMD64 ) server using Debian Testing ( Sarge)

A 64 bit version is available as an unofficial port of Debian. There is a HOW-TO here The Debian GNU/Linux AMD64 HOW-TO

Installing Debian Sarge on a RAID 1 Device

I've been asked to install Debian Sarge on a server for the Burngreave Messenger.

The machine in question has 2x 80GB Hdd which are to be used as a RAID 1 Disk Mirror.

My Distro of choice is generally SuSE which will deal with installing onto a raid device without any issues, but the specification was to use Debian so....

Next Steps

With the success of Burngreave Community Area Network, we need to start building on it and putting some content in through the pipes..

Next steps ?

1. plug residents who are interested working with Community Organisations directly into the CAN ?

2. get timebank software going ? Use it to coordinate volunteer activity ?

3. find ways of 'can' abling every community group in Burngreave ?

Open Source and the State

Came across This on a mailing list

The original article crap! But even so ..

The arguments seem to lead up to its final statement

> > demonstrate quite clearly that the promotion of open-source software
> > cannot be an economically justifiable role for the state.

But there are probably a number of fallacious steps involved. I guess you

Automatically converting between different Document Formats

In the quest to produce a simple way of porting documents into more transparent formats I've managed to use wvWare to convert MS word 2000 Docs to html and pdf from shellscripts.

I'll post some examples later. First though

wvHtml filename.doc filename.html

Creates HTML from Word docs .. seems OK, yet to try on complex tables.

BITPart/BCAT/Public meeting Tue 26 Aug 2003

Dear all

Following the BITPart General Meeting of Tuesday 12 August 2003 it was agreed that I should arrange an open and public meeting between BITPart and BCAT to discuss the issues diplomatically transcribed in Saleema's e-mail (see below).

However, a letter has been sent by the BITPart Management Committee to the BCAT Board of Trustees raising issues which need resolving. Therefore BCAT cannot enter into such a meeting until the matter is settled.
